Yes. BJSA's recreational and travel programs are coed, allowing boys and girls to learn and play together in age-appropriate divisions.

Yes! Coaches whose child is registered with BJSA during the season they coach are eligible for a full reimbursement of their child's registration fee after successfully completing the season and fulfilling their coaching responsibilities.

You must be at least 13 years old and complete the required Connecticut referee certification.

BJSA monitors field conditions and weather forecasts carefully. Families will be notified if practices or games are canceled or postponed due to unsafe conditions.

Parents are encouraged to:

Yes. All players are required to wear the official BJSA uniform during games. Uniform information will be provided during registration. Recreational soccer uniforms are included in the registration fee. Travel soccer uniforms are purchased separately and are not included in the registration fee.

BJSA understands that shipping delays may occur. Coaches will communicate temporary uniform expectations if necessary until official uniforms arrive.

Travel players are selected based on skill level, commitment, coach evaluations, attitude, teamwork, and roster availability. Depending on the number of interested players, evaluations or tryouts may be held.

Yes! New players are always welcome to participate in travel evaluations or tryouts. Previous BJSA participation is not required.

Travel soccer typically requires multiple practices each week, weekend games, occasional weekday matches, and participation in tournaments or league events. Families should be prepared for a greater time commitment than recreational soccer.

Registration fees help cover league expenses, uniforms, insurance, field maintenance, and equipment. Refund requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Once uniforms have been ordered or the season has begun, refunds may be reduced or unavailable except in extraordinary circumstances.

No. Registrations are non-transferable and apply only to the registered participant.

Yes. All coaches and other required volunteers must complete the necessary background screening and any required SafeSport training before participating with players.

SafeSport is a nationally recognized training program designed to help create a safe environment for young athletes by educating coaches and volunteers on athlete protection, abuse prevention, and appropriate conduct.

Parents should provide all relevant medical information during registration and notify their coach before the season begins so appropriate accommodations can be made whenever possible.

Players should arrive approximately 30 minutes before kickoff unless otherwise instructed by their coach. This allows time for warm-ups, stretching, and team discussions.

No. For player safety, jewelry—including earrings, necklaces, bracelets, watches, and smartwatches—must be removed before participating in practices or games, in accordance with FIFA and CJSA rules.

We understand that families have busy schedules. Please notify your coach as soon as possible if your child will miss a practice or game.

We ask parents to encourage all players positively while allowing coaches to provide instruction. Positive cheering helps create a fun and supportive environment for everyone.

BJSA expects all players, parents, coaches, and spectators to demonstrate respect, good sportsmanship, and appropriate behavior toward teammates, opponents, referees, volunteers, and staff. Unsportsmanlike behavior may result in disciplinary action.

For the safety of all participants and spectators, pets should only be brought to BJSA events if permitted by the field or facility. Any permitted pets must remain leashed and under the owner's control at all times.

Yes! Each winter, BJSA partners with Breaking Barriers & Beyond and Futsal & Street Soccer to host an affordable community futsal tournament in Bloomfield. This event allows players to continue developing their skills during the offseason.

There’s also winter soccer training available indoors. 

Yes. BJSA regularly hosts community events such as opening day celebrations, tournaments, skills clinics, fundraisers, awards ceremonies, and parades throughout the year.

Yes. BJSA typically schedules Picture Day each season. Information regarding dates, ordering options, and location will be shared with families in advance.
