Become A Referee
Youth soccer referees play a vital role in creating a safe, fair, and enjoyable environment for players. BJSA is always looking for responsible individuals interested in becoming certified referees.
Anyone 13 years of age or older is eligible to begin the certification process.
To become certified, prospective referees must complete the required training and certification through the Connecticut State Referee Program. Training includes classroom instruction, online coursework, and on-field practical experience covering the FIFA Laws of the Game, game management, player safety, and proper officiating techniques.
New referees are typically assigned age-appropriate matches while gaining experience and receive compensation for each game they officiate.
